All Aboard the Historic Marietta Trolley

Now in its second year, the Historic Marietta Trolley Co. is the only regularlyscheduled tour trolley in the Atlanta Metro area. Sit back and relax along the scenic tour while professional guides provide you with an interesting and informative view of historic Marietta. The trolley tour includes the Marietta Square, the Confederate, National and City Cemeteries, Kennesaw National Battlefield Park, the Kennesaw House and grand antebellum homes, and several other points of interest along the beautiful, tree-lined streets of Marietta’s historic districts.

Other tours include the Civil War Tour and the Marietta National Cemetery Walk. The Civil War Tour is offered quarterly and takes you back to Kennesaw Mountain and Marietta during the hot summer of 1864. Visit Cheatham Hill, the site of the worst fighting on the Kennesaw Mountain Line. Explore the Confederate and National Cemeteries as you walk among the graves of the brave men who died around the Marietta area in 1863- 1864. This-two-and-a-half-hour tour will captivate you with the many personal stories of the men who fought here.

For a closer look at the Marietta National Cemetery, take a walk with a guide who has recently published a book on it. Started in 1866 with the interment of 10,000 Union soldiers— most who died in the Atlanta Campaign—the cemetery is now the final resting place for veterans of all subsequent American wars, and at least two Revolutionary War soldiers are also buried there.

Not a history buff? There are plenty of other reasons to ride the trolley. Step aboard for a 90-minute spirited ride through Marietta and learn Marietta’s “other” history as seen through the eyes of the dearly departed on the Scaryetta Ghost Trolley Tour. Listen to stories of the ghosts residing in the Kennesaw House and the story of the haunted Mary Meinert statue at the St. James Episcopal Cemetery. Take a brief walk around the Marietta City Cemetery and hear the story of Marietta’s most famous ghost, “Lady in Black.”

Or once a month, take the trolley to an Atlanta Braves right to the door of the stadium. No parking, no walking.

The trolley, named the Uncle Ruban in honor of the first streetcar to run between Marietta and Atlanta, offers regular tours Thursday through Sunday, and special group tours Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Tickets for regular and special tours can be purchased at the Historic Marietta Trolley Company, 131 Church Street or at the Marietta Welcome Center. Ticket prices are: adults, $20; seniors 55 and above and college students with ID, $18; children 4-12, $12; and 3 and under are free. Group rates for 10 or more are $15. Prices do not include tax.

From Sept. 1 to Nov. 16, as a of token appreciation and in celebration of Marietta’s 175th anniversary, the Historic Marietta Trolley Co. is offering Marietta residents (with proof of address) the opportunity to bring along a guest for free to experience the City’s rich heritage. Space is limited on these “token tours,” so make reservations as soon as possible.

There is no better time than now to experience the exciting Historic Marietta Trolley. For information or to purchase tickets, call 770-425-1006 or visit www.mariettatrolley.com.
